UTP cables are not surrounded by any physical shielding to block the electromagnetic interference (EMI) caused by radiated signals coming from electric motors, electric power lines, radio and radar stations, etc. Nevertheless, such noise can be eliminated before reaching the receiver using balancing techniques and considering that noise is induced over the two twisted conductors. With the appropriate cable design and construction it is possible to maintain this immunity.
